Eintracht Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham LIVE! Champions League result, match stream and latest updates today

Tottenham again lacked a cutting edge in the Champions League as the English team drew 0-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday to leave their group wide open after three rounds of games.

The only goals scored by Antonio Conte’s side in Group D remain the late double by Richarlison in an underwhelming 2-0 win over 10-man Marseille in the opening round, with the stalemate in Frankfurt following a 2-0 loss at Sporting.

Son Heung-min and Ivan Perisic came closest for Tottenham in a match that was end to end at times but where the finishing from both teams left a lot to be desired.

Eintracht’s best chance fell to Jesper Lindstrom but his second-half effort flew over the crossbar from a central position inside the area.

Tottenham and Eintracht moved to four points, two behind Sporting and one more than Marseille. All four teams have a realistic chance of a top-two finish to advance, with Tottenham having two home games remaining.

Good night!

Good night and thank you for joining Standard Sport’s LIVE coverage of Tottenham’s draw away at Eintract Frankfurt this evening.

Below, you can read analysis, ratings and reaction!

Conte: Tottenham need more signings to compete at the highest level

23:34 , Jonathan Gorrie

Antonio Conte stressed it would take time for Tottenham to start competing in the Champions League in the wake of his side’s 0-0 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday night.

While Spurs created a number of good chances in an improved performance following Saturday’s loss to Arsenal, Conte’s frontline failed to fire.

Harry Kane and Heung-min Son were guilty of squandering opportunities as the team continue to suffer from the absence of Dejan Kulusevski.

Clunky Tottenham lack a link with Kulusevski’s absence costly

0-0 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt may prove a decent point for Tottenham, who can still top a wide open Champions League group, but another patchy performance did not quite banish the memory of their derby defeat, nor end questions about Antonio Conte’s selections and tactics.

Spurs have now played their two toughest away games, including the defeat to Sporting Lisbon last time out, but they are under pressure to beat the Portuguese side and Frankfurt at home, while a trip to Marseille will prove no gimme after their 4-1 win over Sporting earlier on Tuesday.

Tottenham squandered a host of opportunities in a frustrating 0-0 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

The visitors had the better of the openings against the Europa League winners but were too often let down by their final ball and finish, as their stuttering form on the road in Europe continued.

Improvement from Tottenham but frontline fail to fire in Frankfurt

22:08 , Jonathan Gorrie

Antonio Conte surprisingly named an unchanged Tottenham team after Saturday’s loss to Arsenal for Tuesday’s trip to Eintracht Frankfurt, sticking to what he knows after insisting his way was best in the build-up to the game.

Given the passive manner of their performance at the Emirates, that seemed a risky strategy, but the same team who sat back against Arsenal sprung back into life inside Deutsche Bank Park.

An entertaining game in a hostile atmosphere saw Spurs create a number of gilt edge chances, as well as concede the kind of opportunities Conte will be raging out into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

FT: Eintracht Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

21:52 , Jonathan Gorrie

90:00 - As far as 0-0 go, that was a cracker.

Dan Kilpatrick in Frankfurt

21:45 , Jonathan Gorrie

Gil is looking lively on his first Spurs appearance since January 23. Spurs have seven minutes plus stoppage-time to find a winner, although a draw would not be a bad result all things considered.

End-to-defeat

21:42 , Jonathan Gorrie

82:00 - Thrilling at the moment, with no midfield battle to speak of but both sides are lacking that final pass. Some tired legs out there.

More Tottenham changes

Conte said Bryan Gil, who is yet to make an appearance this season, would be his “first option” from the bench last night but there’s no sign of any subs yet. Bissouma feels like a more likely change as the game becomes increasingly stretched.

Game really open now

21:22 , Jonathan Gorrie

61:00 - Lindstram blazez a shot over the bar before Perisic’s cross only just evades Richarlison.

End-to-end stuff.

Dan Kilpatrick in Frankfurt

21:14 , Jonathan Gorrie

More encouragement at the start of the second half for Spurs, with chances for Kane and Son inside 10 minutes. Lloris has also had to make a smart save from Knauff as the game opens up.

ANOTHER CHANCE FOR SPURS

21:14 , Jonathan Gorrie

54:00 - Son cannot find the target with a shot from just inside the box.

CHANCE FOR TOTTENHAM!

21:12 , Jonathan Gorrie

51:00 - Kane’s tap in is blocked after Perisic played him through! Spurs are getting closer and closer.

CHANCE FOR FRANKFURT!

21:09 , Jonathan Gorrie

49:00 - Lloris, who has made a mess of some clearances tonight, comes up trumps with a BIG save from Knauff’s volley

HT: Eintracht Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:51 , Jonathan Gorrie

Goalless at the break.

Dan Kilpatrick in Frankfurt

20:47 , Jonathan Gorrie

Spurs are starting to put together some nice moves in the final third, and they won’t really want half-time here. Still missing the final ball but promising signs.

CHANCE FOR SPURS

20:46 , Jonathan Gorrie

44:00 - Brilliant nutmeg from Richarlison allows Emerson to cross to Son, whose shot is delfected onto Perisic but the ball trickles just wide.

CHANCE FOR TOTTENHAM!

20:43 , Jonathan Gorrie

39:00 - Stunning backheel from Kane on the edge of the box allows Son a curling shot from around 18 yards, though it sails wide. Should have done better.

More Lloris worries

20:41 , Jonathan Gorrie

37:00 - The Frenchman, fresh from his clanger from Arsenal, once again makes a hash of a clearance.

Dodgy Llrois clearance

20:37 , Jonathan Gorrie

35:00 - His swipe sees Emerson Royal bump into Conte trying to keep the ball out of play. Hapless.

Spurs have weathered the storm

20:34 , Jonathan Gorrie

31:00 - Conte’s side look a lot more solid after those Frankurt chances. Still struggling for that killer pass, however.

CHANCE FOR TOTTENHAM!

20:30 , Jonathan Gorrie

28:00 - Son and Kane going through the gears as the former tees up the latter, who spins his defender and shoots inches wide from just outside the box.

CHANCE FOR SPURS

20:28 , Jonathan Gorrie

25:00 - Son flashes a cross along the box but Kane cannot quite get there! Lovely move

Dan Kilpatrick in Frankfurt

20:27 , Jonathan Gorrie

Spurs have looked clunky in possession, which is often the case when Dejan Kulusevski is missing, but there was a glimpse of real quality there, as Richarlison found Son - but his cross was too far in front of Kane.

CHANCE FOR FRANKFURT!

20:21 , Jonathan Gorrie

20:00 - Rode sees his shot headed over the bar after excellent build-up play by the home side, with Knauff’s driving runs from deep causing problems.

Frankfurt are growing into this.

Spurs a lot more proactive

20:17 , Jonathan Gorrie

15:00 - Spurs are engaging up the pitch, with Romero actually moving out wide to back-up Emerson Royal as a wing-back when they have the ball.

The intensity is there this evening.

CHANCE FOR TOTTENHAM!

20:14 , Jonathan Gorrie

12:00 - Clever free-kick sees Son deliver a tempting ball into the back post, though Romero’s flick-on header only puts Kane off and the Spurs forward cannot react quick enough.

Dan Kilpatrick in Frankfurt

20:12 , Jonathan Gorrie

It’s been an encouraging start for Emerson Royal, whose selection was not met with universal acceptance by Spurs fans (at least those online). The Brazilian has already sent a shot over, and won a corner and a free kick. Spurs’ best outlet so far.

Loose passing from Bentancur

20:12 , Jonathan Gorrie

10:00 - The midfielder gets a pass into Kane completely wrong when the England captain was in a good position, dropping deep to release Son.

Kane could not hide his frustration.

Emerson involved early on

20:10 , Jonathan Gorrie

09:00 - The right-back is Spurs’ most advanced player at times, seemingly spotting a gap in the Frankfurt backline.

CHANCE FOR TOTTENHAM!

20:09 , Jonathan Gorrie

05:00 - What a story this would have been!

Dier sprays a diagonal ball out to Emerson Royal, who gets in-behind and hits a volley, which misses the target.

Frankfurt happy to sit back

20:07 , Jonathan Gorrie

06:00 - The home side know what Spurs can do on the counter, refusing to give them much space by engaing up the pitch.

Cristian Romero, meanwhile, is happy to sprint 30 yards to get Spurs’ press underway.

Fast start from Frankfurt

20:05 , Jonathan Gorrie

03:00 - Slight concern for Dier and Muambi looks to stretch the Spurs defence and the England international stretches to clear.

He looked in pain but is ok to continue.

KICK-OFF

Lucas Moura refuses to rule out Tottenham exit amid talk of Sevilla move: ‘It’s a club that I like’

19:55 , Jonathan Gorrie

Lucas Moura has revealed he would be keen on a possible move to La Liga, as he was told of reported interest from Sevilla.

The Brazilian has played a total of 12 minutes of Premier Leaguue football for Tottenham so far this season, coming in the opening two matches of the campaign, but a tendon problem has kept him out of the side since then.

Whether Moura will be able to force his way into Antonio Conte’s plan when fit remains to be seen, with Heung-min Son, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski already battling it out for the two spots either side of Harry Kane.

Throughout the summer Moura was linked with a move away from Spurs, as he enters the final two years of his current contract in north London. He suggested earlier in the summer his plan was to see out the rest of the deal before leaving as a free agent.

Sevilla are one of the clubs rumoured to be keeping tabs on the forward, though it’s suggested they would prefer a loan move at least initially.

Discussing his future, Moura was vocal in his desire to play in Spain one day, with Sevilla evidently an option he would consider seriously.

“I didn’t know about Sevilla’s interest, but it’s a club that I like and a city that they speak very highly of,” Moura said via VamosMiSevilla.

“Playing in La Liga would be something fantastic for me, because I like it a lot.”

Lloris: Tottenham must use derby defeat pain as fuel against Frankfurt

19:11 , Jonathan Gorrie

Hugo Lloris has urged his Tottenham teammates to use their north London derby defeat as fuel in their “marathon” season as they look to bounce straight back against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Saturday’s 3-1 loss at the Emirates sees Spurs slip four points behind table-topping Arsenal and signalled the end of their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

There is little time to dwell on the result, however, with the derby making the start of a brutal run of 13 games in 43 days before club football breaks for the World Cup in Qatar.

Spence and Doherty vie to be best solution to Spurs’ biggest problem

19:03 , Jonathan Gorrie

Antonio Conte was reluctant to throw Emerson Royal under the bus following his costly dismissal in Saturday’s derby defeat, but the Tottenham manager’s sense of frustration was clear.

It had been so even in the few seconds before Anthony Taylor produced a surprising red card, when Conte had been animated on the touchline, livid that the wing-back’s rash challenge on Gabriel Martinelli had gifted Arsenal a free-kick and released the pressure valve inside their own defensive third.

“It can happen,” Conte later said, with a sigh, having spent much of his post-match press conference refusing to be drawn on the merit of Taylor’s decision. “He is a young player, he is only 23. He has to try to exploit this situation, to be better and, in the next situation, to avoid totally the tackle.”

In the end, an easy — if painful — way out for Martinelli was the least of Conte’s troubles, as Emerson was sent on his way and Granit Xhaka fired Arsenal’s clincher before the Spurs boss had time to react to going down to 10 men.

Neville: ‘Awful’ Tottenham ploy is behind the times and lacks ambition

18:58 , Jonathan Gorrie

Gary Neville described Tottenham’s performance in Saturday’s loss to Arsenal as “awful”.

Antonio Conte’s side were beaten 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium in a typically fiery north London derby, with Emerson Royal’s red card compounding the misery.

At their best, Spurs have proven they can compete with the Premier League’s side leading sides even while ceding possession, having beaten Manchester City and drawn with Liverpool both away from home last season.

Ivan Perisic delivers Antonio Conte backing and urges Spurs stars to ‘listen’ to manager

17:57 , Jonathan Gorrie

Ivan Perisic has backed Antonio Conte to deliver trophies for Tottenham and urged his team-mates to listen to their head coach.

Conte last night offered a robust defence of his tactics and selections in a punchy pre-match news conference here in Frankfurt, following Saturday’s 3-1 derby defeat to Arsenal. The Italian defended his decision to overlook wing-backs Djed Spence and Matt Doherty in favour of Emerson Royal and dismissed suggestions his side are too negative.

Conte issues strong defence of Tottenham style - ‘I’m not stupid’

17:44 , Jonathan Gorrie

A bristling Antonio Conte offered a robust defence of his Tottenham management following Saturday’s defeat to Arsenal, insisting he is “not stupid” and can “teach football to many people”.

Speaking in Germany the day after Manchester United’s 6-3 defeat to rivals Manchester City, Conte dismissed suggestions his tactics were negative, pointedly saying he had never conceded “six, seven or eight” as a manager.

He also defended his selection decisions after being told supporters were wondering if summer signing Djed Spence, 21, would be given an opportunity in the wake of Emerson Royal’s sending off at the weekend.

Fiery Conte sends clear Spurs message over selection and tactics

17:40 , Jonathan Gorrie

Antonio Conte hit back at his armchair critics here in Germany last night, offering a robust defence of his selections and tactics, which suggests the Tottenham boss is not about to change his approach against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Told supporters were wondering if summer signing Djed Spence would be given an opportunity at right wing-back after Emerson Royal’s red card against Arsenal on Saturday, a bristling Conte said the 21-year-old is still “not ready”.

Unprompted, he added: “Also [Matt] Doherty last season played every game. Now, I’m not seeing him in the right way to start the game. I am not stupid, I don’t want to lose. I try to pick the best team. If they [fans] trust me, it’s okay. If they don’t trust me, then I’m the coach and I need to take the best decisions for Tottenham.”

Tottenham team news: Royal to continue, Ben Davies back

17:33 , Jonathan Gorrie

Conte has admitted he is worried about Spurs’ mounting injury problems, with Dejan Kulusevksi and Lucas Moura ruled out.

The Italian also says that Matt Doherty is not ready to start games and hinted something similar about Djed Spence. That means Emerson Royal will continue at right-back despite his red card against Arsenal, with options light.

Clement Lenglet will likely deputise in defence but Ben Davies is available once more, with Conte potentially switching to a 3-5-2 formation for the first time this season.
