Emily in Paris: season 3 gets a brand new trailer ahead of December debut

Fans of Emily in Paris get ready because a new full-length trailer has finally been released for season 3. And viewers who were worried that things were going to change after season 2’s major cliffhanger can rest easy, as the show picks up exactly where it just left off.

“My entire life, I’ve been practical. I make one romantic decision and it bit me in the ass,” says Emily (Lily Collins) as the trailer opens.

“Are you talking about work or Gabriel?” asks her longtime friend, Mindy (who is played by Ashley Park).

“Paris,” says a wide-eyed Emily. “Ohhhhhh,” replies Mindy.

As the music starts, Emily is still deciding which boss to go with (fans will remember that the two superstar executives Madeline and Sylvie weren’t getting along so Sylvie decided to set up her own marketing firm and asked Emily if she wanted to join her), attending French classes, making a trip to the South of France with her two beaus (surely the worst idea, ever?) and having a blast in the French capital.

The beloved cast is back together, too: alongside Emily in her Pat Field-styled outfits, there’s marketing boss Sylvie (played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) who is looking, as always, unimpressed; love interests Lucas Bravo’s Gabriel and Lucien Laviscount’s Alfie are very much back in the picture; Mindy is still steadfastly supportive; Kate Walsh’s Madeline is asking Emily to stay at the marketing firm, and Luc and Camille also return.

Judging by the trailer, season 3 is still all splits screens, romance, parties, work situations, bright colours and gorgeous Paris, too.

It was announced in September the third instalment of the show would return to Netflix on December 21.

The internet naturally had a lot to say. Emily in Paris has divided fans since season 1 was first released in 2020, with Rolling Stone at the time saying, “Emily in Paris is not a good TV show,” and The Daily Beast declaring, “People hate Emily in Paris so much it’s a global crisis.”

The series is about a bubbly and somewhat naive American woman’s experience as an ex-pat in Paris and focused (initially at least) on the cultural differences she experienced in her love life and in the workplace when she moved to the city.

The show, which is the brainchild of Sex and the City creator Darren Star, was widely criticised for the heavy-handed comparisons but nevertheless pulled in major viewing numbers. Netflix said in 2021 that as many as 58 million households had watched the show.

“I can’t wait to hate watch the third season of Emily in Paris,” Tweeted one fan about the new show, while another said, “Hehehe just watched the Emily in Paris s3 trailer can’t wait.” A third said, “Only reason i am watching emily in paris” along with a compilation of Sylvie Grateau, doing what she does best, aka being fabulous.

Season 2 ended on a major cliffhanger: it was really up in the air whether Emily would return to America or forge forward with her new life in Paris.

But Netflix showed their hand in January when it announced that Emily in Paris was going to be renewed for a third and fourth season. Emily in Paris wouldn’t be quite the same in Chicago.

In an interview with Vogue last December Collins said: “From when I first heard about the project, it sounded so appealing and magical. I loved that Emily was so unapologetically herself. I loved that she was bright, bold, bubbly, daring, funny, witty, charming, down-to-earth, and silly. All these qualities, that I thought: How can that all be in one person?”

Emily in Paris Season 3 will be released on Netflix on December 21.
