The US Open champion has not played since claiming a stunning triumph in New York on September 11.
The 18-year-old has since parted company with coach Simon Richardson, with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) national coach Jeremy Bates coaching her at this tournament on an interim basis.
Due to the US Open not falling within the qualifying period for Indian Wells, Raducanu did not have sufficient ranking points to qualify automatically for the tournament.
However she has been handed a wildcard and a first-round bye as the seventeenth seed.
That means that the 18-year-old will make a delayed arrival into the tournament.
She will play Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the round of 64 after the world number 100 from Belarus upset Maria Camila Osorio Serrano on Wednesday.
When is Emma Raducanu playing at Indian Wells?
The match is scheduled for either Friday, October 8 or Saturday, October 9.
Raducanu could face Simona Halep, one of her idols, in the third round should the Romanian advance from her own second round encounter.
Raducanu’s father was born in the Romanian capital, Bucharest.
