Emmanuel Petit insists he would not swap Arsenal star for Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford
Former midfielder Emmanuel Petit insists he wouldn’t swap Arsenal star Bukayo Saka for in-form Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
Rashford struggled to make an impact last season as the Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League with Cristiano Ronaldo dominating the headlines.
The England international only scored five goals in all competitions last term but his goal in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle over the weekend took his tally for this campaign to 25.
Saka was brilliant for Arsenal last term, with 11 goals and seven assists in the Premier League, and he already has similar numbers for the Gunners this campaign, bagging nine goals and eight assists, as Mikel Arteta’s men sit top of the league.
Despite Rashford’s brilliant form for the Red Devils, Arsenal legend Petit wouldn’t swap Saka for his England team-mate.
When asked which player he prefers out of Saka and Rashford, Petit told Premier League Odds: “I would love to have them both on my team.
“Marcus Rashford was so miserable last season and he was losing his confidence, but now he is a completely different player and back to perfect standards. He is also very clinical.
“Saka, however, is very important for Arsenal and does great things on the pitch.
“I am a massive fan of Saka and the way he plays – I think he will be the captain of Arsenal in the years to come.
“Both players are so important and clinical for their clubs. I think they could compete for the Ballon d’Or, if they keep playing the way they are.
“I love the pair of them but as a Gunner I would stick with Bukayo Saka.”
Speaking earlier this week, former Man Utd defender Paul Parker admitted he was worried that Rashford would get “greedy” and not sign a new deal at Old Trafford.
Parker told MyBettingSites: “It is very important that Man United are succeeding with extending Marcus Rashford’s contract because he is scoring a lot of goals.
“But I’m scared that he now thinks he is on top of the world and will be extremely greedy when demanding a huge jump in salary.
“That should not be his focus, his focus should be on his own development because he has the chance to be a hero at the biggest club in the world.
“Things can change really quickly and he got to understand where he was twelve months ago. Erik ten Hag made him a true goalscorer and he should remember that.”
