Emmy Awards Return to September Berth on ABC

The Emmy Awards are heading back to their regular place on the calendar.

ABC will air the 76th awards on Sept. 15 — exactly eight months after the delayed 2023 ceremony. The 75th Emmys were pushed back during dual strikes by writers and actors, meaning there will be two Primetime Emmy ceremonies in the 2024 calendar year. That’s never happened before in the history of the Emmys, dating back to 1949.

A host and producers for ABC’s telecast, which is slated to air live across the country, will be announced later. The ceremony will take place at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

Despite the delayed ceremony airing partway through the 2023-24 TV season, the 75th Emmys honored shows that ran during the 2022-23 season. The September ceremony will be for programming that ran between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024.

The 76th Emmys will usher in at least one new winner, as HBO’s Succession — which has won three of the last four awards for best drama series — has finished its run and won’t be eligible. FX and Hulu’s The Bear, which earned best comedy honors at the 75th Emmys for its first season, will be eligible for season two in September.

Nominations for the Emmys will be announced on July 17.
