Torquay United were struggling for goals earlier this month - but the Gulls have now scored eight in two games after they beat National League South bottom-side Enfield Town 4-1 in North London this afternoon.

They went behind to a very early penalty but fought back to get an equaliser through Jordan Thomas. Will Jenkins Davies got his second goal in two games for a 2-1 lead at half-time, while Jordan Young added a third with Jenkins Davies finding the net again to wrap up a convincing win.

Despite the early setback, Torquay never really looked uncomfortable in a game that manager Paul Wotton had said beforehand would be a tricky one. Wotton went with the same team that started the brilliant 4-2 win against Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday - with the same five substitutes, too.

The referee awarded the penalty to the home team when Sam Youngs had his shirt grabbed in the box by Sam Dreyer in just the second minute, It was Youngs himself that scored from the spot.

Omar Mussa tested the goalkeeper Rhys Forster with an early shot and another Mussa strike almost fell to Cody Cooke as the keeper struggled to deal with it.

By the 20th minute, Torquay were controlling the game - but Mussa shot wide, before James Hamon was fouled after saving a point-blank Jake Hutchinson shot. Hamon then got down low to save a fierce Billy Leonard shot in the 27th minute.

Thomas got the final touch on a Mussa shot in the 31st minute to direct the ball home for 1-1. The goal came following some good work by Jenkins Davies in the build up and it was 2-1 in the 34th minute when Jenkins Davies curled the ball home from space inside the box. It was an excellent goal. Torquay kept up the pressure for most of the rest of the first half, with Mussa curling another shot just wide in the 43rd minute. But Enfield still looked dangerous, winning a series of corners before half time, as two minutes were added on.

Torquay got the third goal quickly after the start of the second half. The ball skimmed the crossbar from a deflected Jay Foulston shot and it was a corner in the 47th minute. Young got the final touch on the ball after a quick corner by Thomas.
Mussa was replaced by Oscar Threlkeld in the 58th minute. Matt Carson came on for Young five minutes later, before a Hasani header was held by the Enfield goalkeeper.

A Foulston shot was also saved by Forster.A Cooke chance from a corner was cleared off the Enfield line. Ed Palmer was next to join the action when he replaced Jordan Dyer in the 70th minute. Brad Ash came on for Hasani with 15 minutes to go.
Cooke was fouled on the edge of the box and in the 80th minute Hayfield's free kick was hit straight at Forster.

But it was 4-1 moments later when Jenkins Davies got his second with a lovely strike following a good move and ball across the box by Ash.Ash stole the ball from a defender as the game went into injury time, he got a shot away, but Forster touched the ball wide.

With morning leaders Truro City only drawing, and Weston losing for the second game in a row, Torquay remain third, but are on the same points and goal difference as Weston. Truro lead the way by a single point. Not a bad day at all for the Gulls.
