ENG vs IND 2021: “England Is A Two-Man Team, It’s Just Joe Root And James Anderson”- Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has slammed the England team after their 151 runs loss against India in the second test match at the Lord’s cricket ground, on Monday. The hosts needed 271 runs in just less than two sessions in the fourth innings. But their batsmen faltered and could not counter the Indian pace attack. They were bowled out for a mere 120, handing India a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series.

Analyzing England’s performance on Sony Sports Network, Sunil Gavaskar said that the England team relies too much on Joe Root and Jimmy Anderson. He stated, “England is a two-man team. It’s just Joe Root and Jimmy Anderson. With the greatest of respect to all who are playing there, it doesn’t look like a proper Test team.

“Their technique is awful. The technique of their opening batsmen is ludicrous. Their No.3 batsman Haseeb Hameed is nervous, tentative. So, we look up to Joe Root. Jonny Bairstow, yes if he gets going or otherwise it’s nothing. Buttler is a fine white-ball player. I’m not too sure he is there for red-ball cricket,” Gavaskar further added.

The former Indian skipper also criticized the England bowling attack. They gave away 105 runs at the run rate of 4.04 in the first session on day five, which shifted the momentum towards India. Sunil Gavaskar said,

“In bowling, there was just Jimmy Anderson and there was nobody else. Robinson got five wickets in Trent Bridge but it’s really a ‘two and a half men’ kind of a team.”

India will go on to win 3-0 – Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar predicted India will go on to win the five-match test series 3-0 if rain does now play a spoilsport.

“That’s why I think India will win the remaining three matches of the series. I had said at the beginning of the series that India should win it 4-0 or 3-1 and I still believe that result is possible if rain doesn’t spoilsport,” Gavaskar concluded.
