Joe Root Went Past Michael Vaughan‘s tally of Test wins to become England’s most Successful Test captain. The win at Headingley was Root’s 27th as England’s Test captain. Meanwhile, Vaughan said that Root will only called a great captain if he wins the upcoming Ashes series. England have all the momentum heading into the fourth Test at The Oval.

Addressing the press conference, Joe Root took a dig at Michael Vaughan for his recent comments. Root said that he believes in giving everything to his team, and he doesn’t focus on what others have to say.

Everyone Wants To Win The Ashes: Joe Root

“It is something that everyone wants to do, getting to Australia and winning as a player or as a captain. What other people think of me as a captain is irrelevant. My job is to give everything to the team, and if that is not good enough for some people, it is something I have done, and I will be proud of that” said Root.

Root further said that though Ashes series win is important for them currently they are focusing on winning the current series against India.

“As an England captain, you’re judged slightly on how you perform in Ashes cricket,” said Root. “More than anything I feel we need to win this series first. This is a huge series for us. And then we will turn our attention to Australia” added Root.

The England skipper further said that getting Virat Kohli out early in the remaining two Tests will be key to their success. Root has already scored over 500 runs in the series.

“The credit needs to go to our bowling attack, Virat is a world-class player hence the credit needs to be given to the bowling group. We have been able to keep him quiet, it is an extremely good effort from our bowling group and it is something we have to continue if we have to win this series. We have found ways to get him out, he is a fine player and has done tremendous things in Test cricket, we will have to look at ways to get the best players out,” said Joe Root during a virtual press conference on Tuesday.
