England captain Eoin Morgan has suffered "a small flake fracture" to his left index finger.

Morgan injured the finger during a training session at the Ageas Bowl with his teammates.

The 32-year-old should however, be fit to face South-Africa in the opening match of the Cricket World Cup.

In a statement, an England and Wales Cricket Board spokesman said: "He will not take part in the warm up match against Australia but is expected to make a full recovery and be available for England's opening ICC Men's Cricket World Cup match against South Africa at The Oval on Thursday May 30."

Earlier in the day, Morgan had to undergo a precautionary X-ray to check for damage to his index finger after injuring it during a warm up ahead of the pre-World Cup clash against Australia.

The batsman reportedly suffered the injury during catching drills.

Morgan was one of 14 players preparing at Hampshire’s ground, with Joe Root absent on personal business.

The batsman was set to rejoin the team ahead of the match, for which England plan to use 12 players.
