Jordan Pickford heads into the international break still a Premier League goalkeeper after helping his Everton side avoid relegation during a tense season finale.

The 28-year-old will be looking to get the nod from England boss Gareth Southgate ahead of Saturday's Nations League opener away in Hungary.

England will contest four games during this international break, with a trip to Germany and a home clash against Italy set to provide pivotal tests ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Pickford, who has 43 caps to his name, has been England's number one for some time and played a key role during the semi-final run at the 2018 World Cup, as well as reaching the final at Euro 2020. The keeper is now setting is sights back on the UEFA Nations League - a competition which he sees as crucial in the build up to the next major tournament. He said: "We all know what our ambitions for the World Cup are but these are four very competitive games coming up that we want to win.

"It's a competition - I know it's only a new competition - and it is better than playing in friendly matches. We are going to Munich to play in a full arena so they are very competitive matches which we want to achieve in." Asked if he believes England can win the World Cup later this year, Pickford replied: "Yes. Obviously it is going to be challenging against the best teams in the world but it is about us having belief in ourselves. "We've come so far and had the disappointment in the World Cup semi-final and Euro final - that disappointment drives us. "The disappointment is getting so close and losing, getting to the final and losing. "We are proud of what we achieved but when you get that close it gives you that added extra confidence to go and win the World Cup." England's 2022 World Cup campaign gets underway on November 21 with a clash against Iran.

The Three Lions will take on the United States four days later, before ending the group stage with a match against either Wales, Scotland or Ukraine.
