Harry Kane’s late penalty earned England a 1-1 draw in their Nations League clash against Germany.

It was a tough night for the Three Lions in Munich after Jonas Hofmann struck early in the second-half.

German pressure made a second for the hosts look more likely than a leveller yet England pulled themselves back into the game with chances falling for Kane and Raheem Sterling.

With only minutes remaining, Kane buried a penalty won by the striker after a VAR review to secure the draw.

Here’s how Gareth Southgate’s men rated in Munich...

Jordan Pickford - 5

Kicking and handling erratic. Got a hand to goal but beaten by power.

Kyle Walker - 5

Struggled to deal with Musiala’s runs inside and looked unsettled by return to right-back, which is strange given he plays there every week. Worst performance in an England shirt for some time.

John Stones - 6

The most composed of England’s backline in the face of intense German press.

Harry Maguire - 5

Weak against Havertz for Germany’s disallowed goal, then dragged out of position for Hoffman strike. In this form, his place in a back four is even harder to justify than in a three, when ball carrying skills at least come into play.

Kieran Trippier - 6

Picked at left-back out of necessity but this was another night when the need for a natural in the position was emphasised.

Declan Rice - 7

Standards slipped against Hungary but not here. Excellent in midfield, particularly as Phillips early departure quickly shifted balance of pairing.

Kalvin Phillips - N/A

Took a nasty blow to thigh in early collision. Tried to run it off but could hardly walk.

Mason Mount - 5

Tested Neuer from range when might have slipped Sterling in. Pressing largely ineffectual.

Bukayo Saka - 5

Virtually anonymous for 45 minutes, then came alive with two decent efforts in first-half stoppage time. Poor again after the break.

Raheem Sterling - 6

Won his 75th cap and tried to take game to Germany but was relatively quiet on return from illness until Grealish arrival prompted a shift inside and some smart link-up.

Harry Kane - 7

Dropping deep is often a source of frustration but England needed it here to help get a foothold. Missed two big chances but put away late spot-kick superbly for 50th England goal.

Substitutes

Jude Bellingham (Phillips 14’) - 6

Given unexpected early opportunity by Phillips injury. Didn’t immediately grab it but created a couple of dangerous situations winning ball high up pitch and impressed more as game went on.

Jack Grealish (Mount 73’) - 7

Introduction immediately sparked England’s best spell of second half. Laid on two terrific chances for Kane and will surely start against Italy.

Jarrod Bowen (Saka 80’) - 6

Another who made an impact, with low cross somehow staying out.

Unused: Pope, Ramsdale, James, Guehi, Coady, Alexander-Arnold, Ward-Prowse, Gallagher, Abraham
