Former Premier League striker Tony Cottee says this England squad will be talking about money, titles as well as video games during their downtime in Russia.

Cottee says it was exactly the same in the England squads he was involved in in the 1980s – the only difference now is that the players will be playing video games and not cards.

Manager Gareth Southgate named a young squad for the 2018 World Cup with only three players, Jamie Vardy, Gary Cahill and Ashley Young, older than 30 and only one – Cahill – with more than 50 caps.

He told Yahoo Sport’s daily show The 32 : “I’m sure in the current England squad, they’re all talking about money and trophies and the Champions League, it’s life. Or they’re playing on their games [like] Fortnite or whatever it is they play nowadays.”

“I [remember] sitting in the England squad, and I’m sitting with the top players there. They were talking about playing in FA Cup finals, winning the league.

“They’re also talking about their money and I’m thinking, ‘I’m not getting anything near that amount of money’.

“It does turn your head, and I’m sure it’s still going on nowadays.
