After smacking half-centuries in both the innings of England vs India 4th Test, Shardul Thakur said he always believed he had the ability to bat. Playing his first match of the Test series, Shardul Thakur gave a magnificent performance. The right-arm pacer smacked half-centuries in both innings and picked 3 wickets.
His half-century in the 1st innings emerged very crucially for the Indian team. India were railing at 127-7 at one stage and Thakur’s blistering 57-run knock took India to 191-10 on the scoreboard. Thakur also took the important wicket of Joe Root in the 2nd innings, which helped India to bowl out the England team before the stumps on Day 5 and bag victory.
Always Believed That I Had The Ability To Bat: Shardul Thakur
In a conversation with BCCI.TV, Shardul Thakur said that he always believed that he had the ability to bat. He also said that he planned to create an impact in the Test after he was picked in the playing XI.
“It feels great, the day I got to know I am playing the game, I planned on creating an impact in this game and create such an impact that I have to make useful and winning contribution for the team.
“On Day 5, with this result, I am very happy that I could contribute more than 100 runs and three wickets in the game. I always believed that I had the ability to bat, in the nets there was enough time to bat. I think these are the small little things I have done in the nets,” Thakur said.
Against a 99-run lead in the 2nd innings, India scored a mammoth 466-10 on the board, credit to a century by Rohit Sharma (127). Cheteshwar Pujara (61), Shardul Thakur (60), and Rishabh Pant (50) smacked half-centuries to strengthen the scoreboard.
England had a huge target of 368 in the final innings. England observed a great opening start of 100 runs. However, they could not keep the momentum on Day 5 and were eventually bowled out for 210.
With the victory at Oval, India lead the series 2-1 after the conclusion of the 4th Test. England and India will now lock in the 5th and final Test at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. The encounter will begin on September 10 (Friday).
