England vs India 2021: Geoffrey Boycott Warns England That Australia Bowlers Will Watch The Footage Of Their Dismal Batting And Will Hit On Their Weakness
Former England captain Sir Geoffrey Boycott heavily criticised England’s batting and urged them to work on it before the Ashes, else they will go through the same hurdles.
Despite being in a strong position at the end of Day 4, where England were 77/0, India easily managed to bowl them out for 210 on the final day to win the fourth Test by 157 runs at The Oval.

Once the 100-run opening stand between Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed was broken, the England innings collapsed in two sessions with Jasprit Bumrah ran through the middle order and Umesh Yadav provided the finishing touches to bundle the hosts’ innings.
Boycott warned England batters that Australian bowlers will definitely take note of their failures against India and try to hit them when they tour Down Under in December.
“The Australians will have watched the footage from the Oval. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood will be queuing up to bowl at us. The England batsmen need to stand in front of a mirror and be honest with themselves. Whatever it is, change it because it is not working. Everybody has nerves, expectations and heightened emotions when batting but we have to conquer them and play well. Our guys just collapse under pressure,” Boycott wrote in his column for The Telegraph.
England skipper Joe Root has scored 564 runs at an average of 94.0 and it was the first time in the fourth Test that Root failed to score above fifty in both of his innings. Jonny Bairstow with 184 runs is the second most run-scorer for England after Root, and Boycott thinks that the best team cannot rely on an individual.
“Put bluntly, England are not good enough. When England win, you feel Joe has to bat exceptionally well to give us a chance. But to be a top team you can’t be a one-man band. Other guys have to stand up and do the business. Most England cricket supporters sit on the edge of their seats when we are batting wondering how the hell are we going to play. They don’t have confidence in our batsmen,” Boycott mentioned.
The final Test between England and India will start on September 10 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
