Former England Batsman Michael Vaughan admitted that he wasn’t impressed with Joe Root’s tactics against the Indian tailenders and he doesn’t see England making a comeback. India did not start day five as they would have liked with the early wicket of Rishabh Pant but it brought the best out of Shami and Bumrah who were the talking points of the day.
Their 89 run partnership was the need of the hour and it propelled India to a stage where India possibly could not lose the test. England needed 271 runs to win the Test and they faltered from the start of the innings losing the openers for a duck. Mohammed Siraj picked up 8 wickets in the Test while Ishant, Bumrah, and Shami all were among the wickets.
Michael Vaughan Feels England Won’t Be Able To Make A Comeback From Here
Michael Vaughan mentioned that England has fired the Indian team up with their short-ball strategy and stated he doesn’t find them making a comeback in the Test. He added that England might feel the heat in the coming tests as an influence from the previous Test and criticized the plans of Joe Root to bowl short and wide to the tailenders.
“England have prodded them. They have fired them up. It will take a very good England team to come back from here – and I don’t think they will. It’s going to be a long three Test matches from here,”
“They were all over the place. I’ve got no idea what they were thinking. The key when you’re under pressure is to keep things simple. You’re bowling to tailenders, bowl to hit the top of off stump, don’t bowl short and wide,” Michael Vaughan told to Cribuzz in a video.

Michael Vaughan revealed that the strategy of having more fielders outside the 30-yard circle for tailenders wasn’t ideal and wanted the experienced campaigners like Joe Root and James Anderson to take the blame. He added that their tactics weren’t going to reap any benefits.
“Jasprit Bumrah had more fielders on the boundary than Rishabh Pant. How can that happen when you’ve got players like Joe Root and James Anderson who have played over 100 Test matches? They got the tactics completely wrong,” he added.
KL Rahul was adjudged the man of the match for his crucial century in the first innings of the Lord’s Test.
