Virat Kohli-led team India successfully defeated Joe Root’s England in the Lord’s Test match. Notably, entering the final Day it looked like England is ahead in the game, however, with the joint team effort, India managed to defeat mighty England at the Home of cricket Lord’s cricket ground, London. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes England will have to pull a miracle if they want to make a comeback in the series.
Notably, the Indian pace battery was in red hot form in the Lord’s Test against England. The pace unit consisted of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Ishant Sharma dominated English batters. On the final Day they bowled out England at the score of 120 and India won the match 151 runs.
Sunil Gavaskar wrote his column for The Telegraph India, In which he stated it will take ‘superhuman effort’ for England to make a comeback.
“India have dealt a psychological blow to England and it will take a superhuman effort from the home team to come back in the series. Yes, cricket is a game of uncertainties and thing can turn around quite dramatically but for that to happen it will take a miracle.”
Former Indian cricketer opined that England’s batting is heavily dependent on skipper Joe Root. He also feels once Root gets out English team falls apart.
“At the start of the fifth day’s play, the general thinking was that England would win the game. But, on a last-day pitch, even 180 would have been tough as seen by the team being dismissed for 120 and losing by a big margin. Their batting depends so much on Root that if he doesn’t hold the innings together, then the innings comes apart at the seams.”
‘If I were Joe Root, I would be on the hooter to Ben Stokes” – Sunil Gavaskar
Ben Stokes was all set to participate in the five-match Test series against India. However, he pulled out to focus on his mental well-being and recovery from a finger injury. Sunil Gavaskar feels that England is missing star all-rounder Ben Stokes in the series against India. He stated:
“If I were Joe Root, I would be on the hooter to Ben Stokes and implore him to come back and play for he is the kind of impact player who can turn it around for England.
“Sadly someone who was born to play the game is unable to do so and that’s not just England’s misfortune but that of the cricketing world too, for players like Stokes are once-in-a-generation cricketers.”
