Former England captain Michael Vaughan has reckoned that India cannot stick around with the same combination of four fast bowlers who are tail-enders and they need better solidity. India put up a complete opposite performance to the way they played at the Lord’s and have allowed England to get back in the series.

India was all out for just 78 in the first innings after winning the toss and opting to bat, and it had a major impact on the test. Despite their better show in the second innings, India suffered another collapse on the 4th day of the Headingly Test and England went on to win the Test by an innings and 76 runs.

“You Cannot Have Four Rabbits From 8-11”- Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan opined that India cannot come against this England side with four fast bowlers who are like tail-enders and termed them as ‘rabbits’. He mentioned that India’s lower order performance at the Lord’s will not happen always and it has given the Indian captain a wrong assessment of the team combination. He added Mohammad Shami is not a proper number eight batsman and he is coming in too early.

“You cannot have four rabbits from 8-11. The resistance at Lord’s lulled them into a false sense of security about their tail. In reality, they cannot have Mohammad Shami coming in at eight,” Michael Vaughan wrote on his Facebook page.

Michael Vaughan Feels India Lacked Determination

Michael Vaughan reckoned that India lacked the grit and determination they had in the Lord’s Test particularly and mentioned the lack of willingness of the modern-day players to lose their minds early in the Test. He added that India wasn’t ready to show some fight after batting collapse on day one.

“India for whatever reason did not have the determination and right mindset (…) In a five-match series, particularly with modern players, I think you have weeks where teams write off a match quickly if they go behind early. They almost treat it like a tennis match. It is as if they think ‘we will give you this set and start again next week’. That was India’s approach after day one,” Michael Vaughan added.

The series is levelled at 1-1 with still two tests to go and it is going to be very exciting in the remaining two tests.
