Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq is of the opinion that the current England side doesn’t have the ability to chase 368 against India in the fourth Test.
Earlier on Day 4, India’s lower-middle order blazed runs as the visitors put a total of 466 in the second innings to set Joe Root and his team a target of 368.
Haseeb Hameed-Rory Burns sets the base for England’s chase
England were 77 for no loss at the end of Day 4, as openers Rory Burns (31) and Haseeb Hameed (43) showed a great amount of determination to play 32 overs and didn’t lose their guard. The series is tied at 1-1 with all three results possible on the final day.
There’s no chance of India losing this: Inzamam-ul-Haq
Former Pakistan captain, Inzamam-Ul-Haq feels that though England left the fourth day without adding any loss, yet they won’t be able to chase the target and India will just need a wicket to turn the entire match.
“The match has entered a quite interesting stage now. There’s no chance of India losing this. If anyone is thinking that England has got a 70-80 run opening partnership so they’ll chase it down… in my opinion, it’s all about one wicket. The way it’s spinning and the way Jadeja is bowling, every new batsman will find it difficult to play here,” Inzamam-ul-Haq said on his YouTube channel.
“England deserves credit for their determination but 368 in the fourth innings is very difficult… I don’t think this England batting can do that.
“As the match progresses in the morning, as more and more Indian bowlers bowl, you’ll see these cracks and rough patches widen. It will be difficult for the new batsman to get set here. The openers only played out the new ball, got set, and managed the spinner,” he added.
England themselves hold the record of the highest chase at the Oval, that was way back in 1902 when they chased 263 against arch-rivals Australia.
