Former Indian pace bowler Ashish Nehra has praised 27-year-old Jasprit Bumrah for his ability to learn quickly from his mistakes and incorporate them into his gameplay. Nehra also claimed the Mumbai Indians (MI) bowler has quickly become India’s go-to bowler when in need of wickets.

Bumrah produced a magical six-over spell in the fourth Test at Oval last week. It changed the course of the game and put India in the driver’s seat, which eventually resulted in a win for the visitors. The fifth Test was cancelled which brought an end to the tour and Ashish Nehra reviewed the series on Sony Sports.

The most important thing for me is that Jasprit Bumrah does not repeat his mistakes. When you see the stats, in the first match he had probably taken five wickets, dismissed 7-8 batsmen in the Nottingham Test but after that, it is not that he has 30 wickets in the series.

He did not get the wickets also in an odd Test but the way he bounced back and he knows very well when he needs to put in the effort. Jimmy Anderson has a lot of experience. Bumrah is not the one who has played 100 Test matches already. But it is his strength that he learns quicker from others and he has the X-factor as well,” Nehra mentioned.

“There was no chance for England to come back in the game after his spell” – Ashish Nehra

On Day 5, England needed 291 runs to win with 10 wickets in hand. The openers were well set on a flat pitch before a middle-order collapse gave India the victory. The stunning collapse was sparked by Bumrah’s fiery spell (6-3-6-2) which pushed England to the brink of defeat.

He took only two wickets but the way the game was going, when he bowled that spell, there was no chance for England to come back in the game. There was talk about the pitch being batsmen-friendly which I would say was the case as well, but the way he bowled the yorker in Test matches, he removed the pitch totally from the equation.

You saw the yorkers for sure but in this spell, he used the bouncers also very well. He plays with the batsmen’s minds, that is why you will be able to give such performances in Test cricket repeatedly,” Nehra concluded.

Jasprit Bumrah finished with 18 wickets from the four matches played including one five-wicket haul in the first Test at Trent Bridge.
