Former England captain Michael Vaughan slammed the Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara for his lack of run-scoring intent and very poor technique on display in the ongoing Headingley Test. Pujara has been under immense pressure coming into this series and he has been criticized for his continuous string of low scores.

He hasn’t scored a century since the 2018 tour of Australia and he looks very short of confidence despite the important 45 he got in the previous test. So far, his scores in this series have been 4, 12*, 9, 45, and 1 in the five innings he has played and there have been a lot of talks of replacing him in the XI.

Michael Vaughan Opines On Pujara’s Dismissal

Michael Vaughan criticized Cheteshwar Pujara for not looking anywhere near his best and mentioned that the right-hander has lost his application of mind and technique. He added that Pujara has lacked any intent to score runs and has been looking just to defend and survive in the crease which eventually created his downfall. He added that the pressure also got to him while facing James Anderson.

“Pujara looks all at sea. Looks like he has lost his mind, lost his technique. Looks to me like he is playing purely for survival. And Jimmy found the outside edge of Pujara. And then it’s just pressure. The ball was swinging around nicely.” Michael Vaughan told

Michael Vaughan Feels India Was Stuck In The Crease

Michael Vaughan opined that Indian batsmen got stuck in the crease with Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja playing for survival. He also felt that Rishabh Pant should have played his game rather than thinking of half a shot.

“I felt India got stuck in a bit, particularly Rohit Sharma. He is such a good player. He was almost playing just for survival. Jadeja played for survival. We are looking at Rishabh Pant, he played like a half and half shot. That’s not Rishabh.” Michael Vaughan added
