Former England captain Nasser Hussain opined that the batting performance of England on day two at Headingly was ideal and mentioned the difference in batting approach from the previous games. The English openers had been one of the talking points in the series until this test where they finally found their best combination.

Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burn played brilliantly at the top of the order on day one and shattered the Indian hopes of a comeback in the Test completely. Dawid Malan registered a half-century in his comeback Test while the in-form Joe Root produced yet another marvelous century in the series taking his tally to three in three games.

Nasser Hussain Impressed By England’s Top Order Technique

Nasser Hussain was highly impressed by the way England’s top order showed technique in the first innings at Leeds and added that India’s openers were playing a lot from side on until this Test. He added that India would be happy with the five wickets in the final session bringing a little hope into the side.

“Before this game the difference in techniques between England’s top order and India’s openers in Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul had been striking. India were playing the ball late from sideways on, in stark contrast to England. But this is how the England batting should be, at least until India gave themselves a little bit of hope by taking five wickets in the final session,” Nasser Hussain Wrote on His Column For Daily Mail.

Nasser Hussain Opines His Views On Haseeb Hameed’s Defensive Technique

Nasser Hussain expressed his liking for the way Haseeb Hameed played the ball late and was ready to use the tried and tested technique in English conditions. He even compared Hameed to the likes of Kane Williamson in playing the ball under the eyes and landing in the feet.

“The return of Haseeb Hameed has given England an opener who bats in the tried and trusted way and he has had a good couple of days after his struggles at Lord’s. I liked the way Hameed played the ball late here, as you could see in his defence when the ball landed at his feet, just as it does when Kane Williamson bats for example,” he added

Haseeb Hameed was finally dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja for 68 off 195 deliveries and he would be looking to make it big in his next chance.
