Former England captain Michael Vaughan feels it will be difficult for England if they are asked to chase anything above 250 in the fourth Test.

At the stroke of lunch on the fourth day, India were poised at 329/6 with a lead of 230 runs despite England bowlers got three early wickets. Shardul Thakur, who top-scored for India with 57 in the first innings, once again looked to escalate India’s total alongside wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant.

India have now got a great chance to really have a grab at this series: Michael Vaughan

Vaughan feels India have a slight advantage from here to win the match as England might struggle if they chase a target between 250-300.

“Over 250 is not going to be easy for England, over 300 will be too many. India are right in the box seat… India have now got a great chance to really have a grab at this series. They should be able to get at least 130 runs, over 300 runs and I think it’ll take a bit more spin on Day 5, the odd ball might just keep a bit low because the pitch will start to deteriorate,” Vaughan said ahead of the fourth day’s play on Cricbuzz.

It’s well documented that many feel that Ravichandran Ashwin should have played: Michael Vaughan

Ravichandran Ashwin’s omission from the fourth Test came as a big shock to the cricket world and many criticised skipper Virat Kohli and the team management for their stubbornness to not play the Tamil Nadu off-spinner.

Vaughan said Ashwin’s presence would have helped India to wrap the game sooner than they might expect and said Virat Kohli is likely to have the last laugh on his decision.

“It’s well documented that many feel that Ashwin should have played. They haven’t gone with Ashwin but you know what, this Indian side, they are well on top of this Test match, they have made a couple of tweaky changes in the batting lineup, with Jadeja batting at No. 5. Jadeja also got the 2 wickets and Virat will be thinking: ‘I might have the last laugh here. I may, on Monday night, be able to say to all that I was right’. But I’ll tell him if you play Ashwin and win it, you’ll probably win sooner because he’s that good,” Vaughan said.

Earlier in the match, Rohit Sharma (127) and Cheteshwar Pujara (61) were involved in a 153-run stand that helped India gain a massive lead against England.
