Indian legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar stressed upon Jasprit Bumrah’s need to continue to play for the team in the fifth Test against England.

Bumrah has been spectacular for India through the four matches and has easily kept England batters on their toes, with 18 wickets he is the highest wicket-taker for India, only behind England’s Ollie Robinson (21).

In the fourth Test as England were putting pressure on India on the final day, Bumrah got quick wickets of Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow to put India back in the driver’s seat. It wasn’t just normal dismissals but the kind of destruction he left for the hosts was the key factor as they went on complete defensive mode.

If you are 2-0 up, then rest Jasprit Bumrah: Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar wants Bumrah to win the match as India haven’t sealed the series and the bowler can play a vital role to accomplish the task.

“I think in my view, you’re still playing for India and the series is yet to be won. If you are 2-0 up, then rest Bumrah, but we still haven’t won the series so Bumrah has to play,” Gavaskar said on Sony Sports Network.

Bumrah became the fastest Indian pace bowler to complete 100 Test wickets in few matches. The Ahmedabad-born player achieved the milestone in 24 matches, one lesser than legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev.

The interesting fact is that Bumrah has picked only four wickets on home turf and the rest of 97 wickets have come while playing in the overseas conditions.

India will play against England in the fifth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester and the match will start on September 10.
