England vs India, 2021: Twitter Excited As The Oval Test Is Headed Towards A Thrilling Finish On Day 5
With the series level at 1-1, a lot is at stake in the Oval Test between England and India. Both the teams have fought tooth and nail until Day 4, and the encounter is set for an enthralling finish as the hosts needs 291 runs with 10 wickets in hand on Day 5.
The game was in balance on the fourth day, as Virat Kohli’s men continued on 270/3. The skipper and Ravindra Jadeja played out the initial phase before the latter was dismissed by Chris Woakes. An out-of-form Ajinkya Rahane continued to fumble as he fell to the same bowler while on naught.
Kohli couldn’t add much to the total and was sent back by Moeen Ali but the innings-defining partnership happened between Shardul Thakur and Rishabh Pant. The former blazed away to his second half-century of the Test match, becoming only the sixth player to do so at No.8.
While looking to up the ante further, both of them perished in the matter of few balls. A late fight from the lower order further pushed the lead past 350. Eventually, Umesh Yadav was the last batsman out as the visitors folded up for 466, setting England a target of 368.
In their pursuit of the total, Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed looked assured at the crease. The pitch continued to favor the batsmen, and the English opening duo made merry on it. Barring a few threatening deliveries here and there, none of the visitors’ bowlers could penetrate through the opening partnership.
Burns and Hameed securely saw the hosts reach 77/0, with Hameed kicking on to 43*. The last day is set up perfectly with all three results possible. India just needs a single breakthrough to make some inroads but it won’t be an easy task as the bowlers haven’t been able to extract much from the surface.
Twitterati had a roller-coaster of a day, from early wickets to Thakur-Pant’s counter-attack to a calm English opening partnership.

What a match it's been so far. England have started the chase brilliantly, and with no Ashwin you feel India have missed a trick.
But one or two wickets and it's a different game entirely.
Can England do it?

Eng will never get a better chance to successfully chase down a 350+ score in a test. 77-0 with the ball doing nothing for the seamers & a spinner who can’t land it in the footmarks. Game on! #ENGvIND #ENGvsIND
Meanwhile, Ashwin is doing some running laps to keep fit!

He's still not going to attack the stumps. There's no plausible case to show that picking Ashwin would have offered IND a better XI than the one they picked.
