Senior India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has termed the cancellation of the fifth Test in Manchester as “unfortunate”. The game on Friday was called off hours before the scheduled toss due to the threat of covid-19 in the Indian camp.

While the ECB did announce refunds for the fans, Cheteshwar Pujara felt sad for those who travelled to Old Trafford to spectate the finale of an enthralling series.

“Unfortunate end to what has been a wonderful series. Feel for the fans who had travelled to Manchester,” Cheteshwar Pujara wrote on his Twitter.

Cheteshwar Pujara was India’s third-highest scorer of the series with 227 runs at 32.43 after Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. After struggling initially he found his groove and hit 91 in the third Test and 61 in the fourth.

The series was tantalisingly poised at 2-1 in India’s favour before the final Test was called off. The No. 3 batsman is proud of the achievements on this tour, individually and collectively.

“Been a memorable tour – lot of learnings & a performance the group can be really proud off!”

He will now fly to the UAE to join the Chennai Super Kings contingent. Cheteshwar Pujara was roped in by the MS Dhoni-led franchise for IPL 2021, however, he didn’t get to play a game in the first half.C
