Clean Bowled. That was a typical, fitting way for Jasprit Bumrah to claim his 100th Test wicket as he castled Ollie Pope, on Day 5 at The Oval during England‘s second innings.

Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest Indian pace to 100 Test wickets – achieving this feat in his 24th Test; Kapil Dev recorded his 100th scalp in his 25th Test, while Irfan Pathan in his 28th Test.

It was a brilliant set-up by the Indian spearhead to outfox Pope, who was England’s top-scorer in the first innings, but now he could manage only 2 runs. In the over previous to the wicket, Jasprit Bumrah had Pope playing the straighter deliveries.

Then, came in the sucker ball: an effort ball from the speedster, bowled at 142 kph, the inswinger seamed in from the surface to beat Pope’s inside edge, off his inner thigh, disturbing the timber behind him.

India take 4 and inch closer to victory at The Oval

Shardul Thakur gave India their first breakthrough with the wicket of Rory Burns, breaking the 100-run opening stand. That opened the floodgates for the Indian bowlers to break in. They were only helped by Dawid Malan’s run out.

Jasprit Bumrah has been breathing fire post Lunch. After Ravindra Jadeja finally picked his first wicket of the innings, that of Haseeb Hameed, Bumrah struck with Pope’s wicket.

With the pitch now starting to deteriorate, the target of 368 looks out of reach for the hosts. Virat Kohli and co. will be looking to hunt down the remaining wicket. Joe Root, however, remains the thorn in India’s side.
