The Rugby Football Union has announced that ticket sales for England’s two games in September have soared following the Lionesses’ Euro 2022 win.

Sarina Wiegman’s team’s exploits in the recent tournament have helped boost not just soccer but also rugby union interest in the women’s game, it seems.

England‘s rugby side are set to tackle the USA at Sandy Park in Exeter on September 3 before they face Wales at Ashton Gate in Bristol on September 14.

Rugby World Cup hopes

All roads will then lead to the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, which runs from October to November, as the team looks to build on the Lionesses’ success.

“We have seen a spike in sales in the period over the weekend and on the Monday following the Euro final,” an RFU spokesperson told the PA news agency.

“And that was compared to the weekend/Monday prior to the final.

“There has been an average increase of over 100 per cent in ticket sales for both games.”

The Red Roses are no stranger to lifting silverware themselves after winning the Rugby World Cup eight years ago and came second in the 2017 edition.

Number one in the world

They are currently ranked the number one side in the world as they are on a 23-match unbeaten streak, which includes four successive Six Nations titles.

Simon Middleton’s squad kick off their 2022 Rugby World Cup campaign against Fiji in Auckland before taking on France and South Africa in the pool.

They will hope to follow in the footsteps of the Lionesses, who beat Germany 2-1 in extra-time in last Sunday’s final at a packed out Wembley Stadium.
