Wests Tigers centre Oliver Gildart will have the chance to boost his World Cup hopes after joining Sydney Roosters on loan for the rest of the season.

The 25-year-old joined the Tigers on a two-year deal ahead of this season from Super League giants Wigan.

Gildart has made eight appearances for the Tigers, but has recently fallen down the pecking order in Brett Kimmorley’s side. He has more recently been playing in the New South Wales Cup for Western Suburbs Magpies.

Gildart was recently linked with a loan move to Super League side Leeds for the rest of the season – but he will remain in the NRL for the rest of this year at least.

“This works for Oliver, and it works for us as well so strategically it makes sense,” said Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe.

“Oliver will return to us after this short loan and begin preparing for 2023.”

Gildart takes up the Roosters’ final position in the Top 30 squad for 2022. He will return to the Tigers for the final year of his contract in 2023.

The Hindley-born centre came through the ranks at his hometown club Wigan. He won two Super League Grand Finals with the Warriors and a World Club Challenge in 2017. He was also part of Adrian Lam’s side that clinched the League Leaders’ Shield in 2020.

Gildart has won three caps for England since making his international debut in 2018. He also played on the Great Britain Lions tour in 2019.

He will be hoping to play in his first World Cup later this year when England host the tournament on home soil.
