Enzo Fernandez sends message to Joao Felix over permanent Chelsea transfer
Enzo Fernandez has encouraged Chelsea to seek a permanent transfer for Joao Felix in the summer, as he spoke about the pair’s blossoming relationship.
Following an astonishing January spending spree worth £323million – the most any club has ever spent in a single window – Fernandez and Felix are the star names who have been tasked with turning Chelsea’s fortunes around.
The former, 22, became the most expensive player in British football history when Chelsea paid Benfica £107m for his services, while Felix arrived on a temporary deal from Atletico Madrid, after Chelsea paid a £9m loan fee.
And although things are yet to click on the pitch, Fernandez has spoken positively about playing with Felix.
“When you get on with someone off the field it helps on the field to have that special connection,” Fernandez said in an interview with The Times. “He’s a great player, isn’t he? A fantastic player. He’s got lots of ability and loads of qualities.
“He’s a key player for us, an important player and he’s on loan. Let’s hope that Chelsea can do all they can to keep hold of him come June, that would be great.”
The Argentinian World Cup winner also dismissed the notion that the size of the fee Chelsea paid for him might be affecting his performances. He’s keen to develop a leadership role in Graham Potter’s side.
“The amount of money that is paid is nothing to do with me,” added Fernandez. “My job is to go out on the field and give my best at all times.
“I know I’m still young and I need to keep learning, but at some point in the future, maybe tomorrow, maybe at some point in the future, I want to really demonstrate that I’m a leader both in the group off the field but on the field as well.”
