Enzo Maresca has revealed that he spoke with both Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali recently after the pair's relationship breakdown threatens to overshadow the 2024/25 season at Stamford Bridge. Having only been appointed under the Clearlake Capital-Boehly administration earlier this summer, Maresca is the first Chelsea member to publicly speak after the rift came to light.

Although Boehly and Eghbali are still described as having a professional standing, both American businessmen are understood to be looking into ways of buying each other out after just two years of owning Chelsea. Now, with a full understanding of the current disagreement, Maresca has opened up on being in the middle of the situation.

"I try to be as honest as possible," he said, speaking for the first time since the international break and news of plans for the co-owners to part ways. "If I spent my energy about something different [ownership issues], it's not worth it.

"My focus is tomorrow's game [against Bournemouth]. In the last week, I try to do the same. I can't control the other things." However, Maresca has spoken to both Boehly and Egbhali this season.

"I spoke with Todd when we played [Manchester] City," he explained, confirming that there had been no conversations since initial news of a meeting last month broke. "I spoke with Behdad days ago. I am speaking with both, there is no problem at all."

Boehly has been a lesser-spotted member of the ownership consortium in recent months despite taking a big role early on. He was seen at the opening game of the season against City though, where he duly turned round and left his box after Chelsea conceded a second goal late on.

Maresca is keen to keep things grounded though, turning attention towards the pitch, and now allowing this scenario to become a distraction. ""The players are professional enough to understand there are things we can't control," he said. "The main focus for me is the main focus for the players: the pitch, the way we need to do and improve things."

He added: "I don't have an idea [if something is going to happen]. The only thing I can say, in terms of football side, we are in the right direction. The team is improving. I used the international break to review the games."

The Italian, who has now been made an unofficial spokesperson for ownership crisis talks, much like Thomas Tuchel was throughout much of 2022, was able to see the light side of this as well. "I really appreciate you're not going to ask about the owners [laughs]," he said at the start of the press conference.

It took four questions before the elephant in the room was raised. With the circumstances now out for all to see, it will remain a thread throughout the season for Maresca, and he may have to get used to going forward in tough interrogation.
