De Miranda, riding the same horse with which he won the GDE class eight days ago in Paris, topped the field of 46 to continue his rich vein of recent form.

After seven withdrawals prior to the action in Switzerland, including Rodrigo Pessoa, Ben Maher and Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, just a further seven pairs managed to qualify for the jump-off against the clock.

Home favourite Martin Fuchs, just 20 years old, got the event under way with two rails going down atop his faithful Karin II CH.

Spanish rider Pilar Lucrecia Cordon then jumped the wrong course with Eric Lamaze’s former mare Coriana van Klapscheut.

But De Miranda stepped up to the plate and proved a clear course was possible before Pénélope Leprévost and Nayana followed suit to claim second place.

Harrie Smolders, who started last, completedthe podium with the promising Emerald.

In other action on the night, Australian Boyd Exell won the carriage driving World Cup qualifier ahead of Tomas Eriksson and Werner Ulrich to continue his charge towards a fourth consecutive title at the World Cup final.
