Kubica is contesting at least four rounds of the ERC in 2013 in a Citroën DS3 RRC.

After setting eight fastest stage times on his debut in Gran Canaria, Kubica is preparing for more serious competition ahead when he contests round four, SATA Rallye Açores, from 25-27 April.

“I’m choosing (rallying) as a slow comeback to be in better shape after the long break I’ve had,” said Kubica, who was seriously injured in a crash in 2011.

“I feel okay in the car with the permission we’ve had from the FIA (to run a hydraulic gear shift) and I would like to thank them for this. It helps me to keep my right arm always on the steering wheel to avoid the limitation.”

He continued: “I would like to come back in Formula One but I know it might not happen.

"Some things are out of my control but rallying will help me get back to the sport and definitely keep my head busy most of the year.

"Rallying is not just about driving but there’s a lot of preparation so I will spend a lot of time around the rallies and in the car. That’s good and something I was looking for.”
