Daley Blind says the attention to detail from Erik ten Hag will bring him success at Manchester United, as long as he is backed by the Old Trafford board, while he has also been likened to Jurgen Klopp.

The 52-year-old Dutch coach took charge of his final game at Ajax over the weekend. His focus is now firmly on Old Trafford after confirming he will not travel on Ajax’s post-season trip to Curacao.

Ten Hag accepts “there’s a lot of work to be done”, but Blind, who has made 34 appearances for Ajax this season, thinks United’s new boss will be a success.

“Erik ten Hag is a great guy,” Blind said in an interview with former Netherlands midfielder Andy van der Meijde on Bij Andy in de Auto.

“It’s not an easy job, of course, but he doesn’t run away from it either. He takes up the challenge.

“I am quite confident in him at Manchester United but he needs the board behind him. At Ajax he had [Edwin] Van der Sar and [Marc] Overmars behind him whatever happened, also in bad times.

“I hope he gets the time there, he is one of the best managers around.

“Ten Hag leaves nothing at chance. Sometimes we faced an opponent that we would automatically underestimate and we thought, ‘we don’t need a 45 minute meeting for this’.

“But he approaches every single game the same, tactical training sessions.. everything is detailed.”

Ten Hag, who secured a second Eredivisie title for Ajax this month, is trying to finalise his backroom staff.

He is also drawing up plans for the transfer window having met with John Murtough in Amsterdam last week.

But United’s new boss has also been described as “aggressive” and likened to Liverpool chief Klopp.

Klopp comparison for Ten Hag

Van der Meyde told The Sun: “He’s such a good manager who develops a relationship with his players and finds time for them if they need to talk.

“You can see that also with Klopp.

“Erik gives a lot of attention to the players and, as a result, they will do a lot more for him than if he was distant and only their manager, without holding private talks.

“But it doesn’t matter what his name is. If a player doesn’t do what he asks, he will be sitting on the bench.”

As well as Klopp, Van der Meyde thinks the new United boss also has the characteristics of Peter Bosz and Ronald Koeman.

“Erik doesn’t want to play bad football. He’s offensive-minded, he sets his teams up to attack,” he added

“For that I’d compare him to Peter Bosz and Ronald Koeman.

“Erik wants to develop himself, the players and the team. He wants to win games but also make the fans happy with good football.

“For him, entertainment is very important.”
