Chelsea are interested in signing Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho, and the young star has been given a glowing review by former Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag

football.london understands the Blues are frontrunners in the race for Garnacho who has a contract at Old Trafford until 2028. The 20-year-old played well during Thursday night's 2-1 win over Rangers and received a warm reception from United fans.

Our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News understand the Argentine is not actively pursuing a transfer away from his boyhood club. However, United are in a precarious position with the league's Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR), and Garnacho's status as an academy graduate would mean his sale represents pure profit.

And Ten Hag has previously outlined why the winger has received such acclaim from his time in Manchester. Garnacho has scored 23 goals and provided 14 assists since making his first-team debut for United against Chelsea in April 2022.

“First of all, I think he has the prize and it’s a prize,” the Dutchman said after Garnacho signed a new contract in May 2023. “He also shows he can make the final step – not only in talent but also, he made it. But now it’s a new start, a restart, because now the expectations will be higher, the demands definitely will be higher.

“He is on his way, he is a strong character and that’s why he’s there in the moment on this level, and he did it by himself. But now is coming more work to go because the demands are higher, we expect more from him.

"But it’s great he made it because it tells we will give young players opportunities, but they have to deserve it."
