Erling Haaland remains a major doubt for Manchester City’s Premier League game against Liverpool after not being pictured in training on Thursday.

Pep Guardiola’s squad worked out in front of the cameras just 48 hours before the Saturday lunchtime kick-off as a huge question mark lingers over their team selection.

Haaland sat out Norway’s Euro 2024 qualifiers with a groin injury that left the striker “frustrated”.

The chances of him making the squad to face Liverpool appear slim after Alf Inge Haaland, the player’s father, issued a downbeat update earlier in the week.

“You can’t just go two weeks without training and then jump right into a fight,” he told TV2 Sport.

“There must be a progression there. It is about how he responds to treatment in the next few days.”

Unlike a number of other Premier League teams, City do have a free midweek after the Liverpool game before travelling to Southampton and hosting Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.

City are also set to be without Phil Foden after he underwent an operation to remove his appendix while on England duty.

Guardiola is set to deliver an update on Haaland’s fitness when facing the media on Friday.
