Manchester City are confident that Erling Haaland will sign a new contract at the club. That is according to our friends at the Mirror.

Haaland's current City deal expires in 2027, meaning come the end of this season he has just two years left on his current contract. That is normally the time when clubs look to sell, as if there is unlikely to be a conversation over signing a new deal as it is the optimum time to get a big price.

Selling Haaland for any price is unlikely to be on City's agenda, given his goalscoring record since joining the club in 2022. But there have been murmurings of a potential departure, with Real Madrid the big team named as a potential destination for Haaland in the future.

Haaland does have a £150million release clause in his current contract and City are negotiating terms over a new deal and are thought to be keen to remove that clause to avoid giving Madrid an easy way to sign him - no matter how big the price is.

If no new contract is signed by the end of the 2024/25 season, with Haaland entering the final two years of his City deal, there will be more rumours and more talks around his future at the Etihad Stadium.

And if you take a look at his transfer history, it is easy to see why there are question marks over his longevity in Manchester.

Haaland spent two years at Molde in Norway, having moved from Bryne. He left Molde to join RB Salzburg in January 2019, spending just one year in Austria before making a big-money move to Borussia Dortmund in Germany.

His time in Germany lasted just two-and-a-half years, arriving at the Etihad Stadium in July 2022. If he makes it to the end of this season it will be the longest he has spent at one club at three years.

Does Haaland get itchy feet, or is it simply a case of moving on up to bigger and better things each time? Either way, Real coiuld be seen as both itchy feet and moving on to bigger and better things.

City have been linked with a number of other strikers in the past couple of transfer windows, and Viktor Gyokeres could be the perfect Haaland replacement. He is, pound for pound, the next best goalscoring machine.

Gyokeres has obviously been heavily linked with Arsenal and if City make their move they could blow the Gunners out of the water and ruin any transfer plans they might have had for next summer.
