Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has admitted that he cannot wait to line up against Manchester United in the Premier League next season.

The Norwegian marksman has moved to the Etihad Stadium from Borussia Dortmund in one of the most eye-catching deals of the summer transfer window so far.

City have won four league titles under Pep Guardiola without an out-and-out striker. However, they now hope Haaland can give them an extra edge and raise their standards even higher.

Haaland’s move to Man City comes after intense transfer interest in him from elsewhere. Chelsea considered a move for him last summer, but it was Man Utd who wanted him more.

Indeed, former United manager and Haaland’s compatriot Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tried to convince the striker to move to Old Trafford.

Back in 2019, Haaland picked Dortmund and now that he has moved to City, he has admitted he is relishing facing the Red Devils.

Speaking at his official unveiling as a City player, he said when asked who he feels most excited to play: “I don’t want to say the words, but… Manchester United.”

However, boyhood City fan Haaland’s links with the United rivalry go further than just his role in proceedings. His father, Alf Inge, also played for City and proved a key influence in his son’s footballing roots.

Current City star Haaland admitted that he faces a “big challenge” with a “new league, new country and new coach”.

Nevertheless, he insisted that “overthinking is not a good thing”. Haaland vowed to “have fun” scoring goals and enjoying his role.

Haaland reveals Man City ambitions

On his ambitions for City, he said: “I had a feeling in my stomach. The way they played. I had the feeling for City.

“There are so many good players. It’s a huge potential. City are already winners and it’s already a huge potential. I am really excited.

“Every footballer wants to win trophies and become better every single day.

“Sometimes I see players pose with a trophy and I say, ‘I would love to be you’. Let’s keep working hard and hopefully I will win some trophies.”

City set for exciting new chapter

City have already enjoyed lots of success under Guardiola but can now look forward to an exciting new chapter.

Indeed, the arrival of Haaland could signal a change in approach from the Spaniard as he looks to cement his side’s place at the top of the Premier League.

The Norwegian enjoyed a fantastic record in the Bundesliga for Dortmund, scoring 85 goals in 88 games.

Haaland will now be looking to transfer that form into the Premier League – and also help Guardiola’s side finally win the Champions League.
