The Canadians had won all 11 of their group-stage matches to set up a page 1v2 play-off clash with Russia, with the two teams blanking the opening end.
Canada then took the lead with a single in the third end, before Russian skip Anna Sidorova scored two in the fourth to go ahead 2-1.
But opposite skip Rachel Holman answered with two of her own, before another single gave Canada a 4-2 lead at the interval.
Russia halved the deficit with a single in the sixth end, only for Canada to restore their-two point lead with one of their own in the seventh.
A steal in the eighth meant it was 6-3 Canada, while another steal in the ninth saw Russia concede, with Canada now one win away from gold.
