After a 9-3 victory over hosts China in their first game, Canada were back on the Beijing ice later that day to face Germany.
In the fourth end Canada skip Rachel Homan raised one of her own stones into a scoring position, taking out a German stone and scoring one point for a 3-1 lead. They concluded the game with single-point steals in both the eighth and ninth ends for a 6-2 victory.
USA lost their opener to Scotland but recorded their first victory as they won 10-8 against Sweden.
Sweden had won their earlier game and in the second end their skip Anna Hasselborg drew her last stone into the house, scoring three points and taking an early 3-1 lead.
But USA responded and, in the fifth end, their skip Nina Roth hit out a Swedish stone to score three points and take a 7-4 lead before going on to win 10-8.
Meanwhile, the Czech Republic beat Denmark 6-5 while Russia held on to beat South Korea 9-6 in the first game for all four teams.
