Wayne Rooney has been omitted from Manchester United's squad for their Europa League quarter-final clash with Anderlecht.
The club captain has missed the past two matches with ankle problems but was back in training this week and took part in Wednesday's session.
However, manager Jose Mourinho has decided he is not fit enough to make the trip to Brussels in another blow to the 31-year-old who has not started a game for the club for four and a half weeks.
"He's not happy with his condition," Mourinho said. "He has a bad feeling with his ankle. Let's see for the weekend."
United face Chelsea on Sunday as they aim to keep up the pressure on bitter rivals Manchester City, who are four points ahead of them in fourth place in the Premier League.
However, the Europa League game on Thursday is the most important of the season as victory in the competition will guarantee a return to the Champions League. And Mourinho insisted his team must be on their guard against the Belgians. "They are a good team and have a certain way of playing, adapted to the qualities of their players," he added.
"They play well, press well and have talented players. I think we have to play at our best level. "When a team arrives at this stage of the competition, everyone feels it’s possible (to win it). The motivation is high for everyone."
Goalkeeper David De Gea will also miss the game with a hip problem meaning that Sergio Romero, who has deputised in the competition so far this season, is guaranteed to start.
Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly are also set to continue in central defence with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling out with toe and calf problems respectively. However, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia are back in contention after missing the victory over Sunderland at the weekend with slight niggles.
Anderlecht have made sure there will be strict security measures before the match following the bus attack in Germany ahead of Borussia Dortmund's clash with Monaco on Tuesday.
Anderlecht spokesman David Steegen said: “We are prepared. The security level in Brussels has been higher since March 22 last year, when co-oridinated attacks in the city killed 32 and injured hundreds of others.
“It means the city and all public events within it are subject to enforced security measures, including army presence, extra security sweeps and controls."

Lukasz Teodorczyk, the home side's star striker who has scored 28 goals this term, could be missing with a shoulder injury. He is unlikely to be risked if the problem has not improved in time.
