Alonso began his career at Real Sociedad before going on to enjoy trophy-laden spells with Liverpool, Madrid and Bayern Munich, while winning two European Championships and a World Cup as Spain’s No 14.
“In my opinion, I’ve played for the best teams in England, Spain and Germany, which is what I wanted: a good career,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“I’ve played with some great players and worked with some great coaches, learning a lot from all of them.
“I’ve been lucky to play for some great teams, from my hometown club – with a spell at Eibar – to Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
“Liverpool? I still feel very attached to them. Liverpool are still a big part of my life and always will be, even if I’m not there.
