Republic of Ireland captain Coleman is due to undergo surgery on Saturday after breaking his right leg during Friday night's 0-0 World Cup qualifier draw with Wales at the Aviva Stadium.
Coleman was hurt in a 69th-minute challenge by Neil Taylor, who was sent off as a result. The Everton defender was treated at length on the pitch and was given oxygen before leaving the field on the stretcher.
It was at this point Ledley was pictured on the television coverage, and one Twitter user posted a screen grab questioning whether the Crystal Palace player was grinning.
Other social media users then accused Ledley of laughing at Coleman's injury. Yet Ledley - who suffered a leg fracture last year just before the Euro 2016 finals - actually appears to be grimacing as he stands with his back to Coleman in the screenshot.
