Bastian Schweinsteiger thought he had achieved it all in football when he won the World Cup with Germany in 2014.
Turns out he hadn’t seen it all.
When Schweini was paraded by new club Chicago Fire on Wednesday following his high-profile move from Manchester United, he was asked by a local reporter if he thought his new club could win the World Cup.
Yes, you heard that right. Despite appearing in America’s MLS in club football, he was asked if the new club could do a Germany by winning the international game’s biggest tournament.
Thankfully, a smiling Schweinsteiger gave a diplomatic answer rather than ridicule the poor reporter.
“I think in football anything is realistic,” he said. “Even if it is against the best team in the world, anything is possible. I’ve seen I wanna win the next match, and then see where we are.”
Well, you know what they say: never write off the Germans.
But it’s safe to assume you can write off Chicago from winning the World Cup.
