One of the first things you think of in association with Borussia Dortmund is the club’s famous ‘Yellow Wall’ in the South Stand of the Westfalenstadion.
The iconic congregation of ardent fans which pack out the stadium’s South Stand was not around for the Bundesliga match against Wolfsburg, which the club won 3-0.
The reason? Dortmund were slapped with a €100,000 (£85,000) fine and forced to close the ‘Yellow Wall’ as punishment for crowd trouble against RB Leipzig.
The German FA intervened after Leipzig supporters were attacked on their way to the ground on February 4 with 28 people arrested.
The result was a set a very bizarre scenes on Saturday with the famous section of the stadium empty, as the following photos demonstrate…
Many noted how strange it all felt on social media…
Still the lack of a ‘Yellow Wall’ did not damage Dortmund’s play as they won comfortably through goals from Jeffrey Bruma, Lukasz Piszczek and Ousmane Dembele.
