United battle Chelsea for £86m Griezmann
Manchester United are going to go up against Chelsea this summer for the signature of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, according to the Sun. Because of his £86m release clause, anyone who matches the figure can talk to the French attacker, and Antonio Conte wants to use his bottomless pit of money to sign him. Jose Mourinho and Manchester United have long had Griezmann as their number one target, and believe they are currently leading the race.
Paper Round's view: United's interest is longstanding, and if they had any sense they should have been in contact with him for two seasons to start persuading him to make the move. United can call on Paul Pogba, his friend, to help attract him, but Chelsea are the only one of the two who can currently guarantee Champions League football next season. With the 2018 World Cup fast approaching, that could be a decisive factor.
Dier calls on England fans to show respect
England midfielder Eric Dier has called on England's fans to behave at Wembley on Sunday night, in the aftermath of a terrorist attack in London. Dier said, "Wherever we go they’re always fantastic, the support they given us is amazing, but all we ask is they support us in the right way and be respectful. And of course because of the dreadful stuff that’s happened over the last couple of days in London, we just hope the fans will be very respectful of that."
Paper Round's view: Most of the England fans will be happy to observe a minute's silence or whatever is suggested in respect of the attacks. But Dier is saying this because of everything that could follow. There were the usual, tedious chants about World Wars and the IRA against Germany, and no doubt something similar will be on show throughout the game on Sunday.
Smalling injury blow
