Rooney loses England captaincy
The heavy lead across all of the papers is that Wayne Rooney's spell as England captain looks likely to be over as he has been left out of Gareth Southgate's latest squad despite telling the national team manager he is fit to play for Manchester United at the weekend. At his press conference Southgate highlighted Dele Alli, Adam Lallana and Ross Barkley as in-form players in Rooney's position. He also said that the 'captain' would be assessed on a game by game basis, suggesting that it wasn't as big a deal for him as previous managers.
Paper Round's view: This is a bold move for Southgate and this bullish press conference should be encouraging for England fans. It's a long way from fixing all the problems with the England national team but this is certainly a good start.
City want Kimmich
The big transfer exclusive in The Sun is that Manchester City want to sign Joshua Kimmich this summer. Guardiola gave Kimmich plenty of opportunities at Bayern Munich last season but he has fallen out of favour with new manager Carlo Ancelotti, which could pave the way for a £40 million move.
Paper Round's view: Kimmich is an exceptional young talent and it would be fascinating to see how Guardiola used him at City. In reality he could partner John Stones, replace Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta or play the anchor role currently occupied by Yaya Toure and Fernandinho. He's that versatile.
