Coleman suffered the serious injury following a challenge from Wales left-back Neil Taylor in the 0-0 draw at the Aviva Stadium.
Television broadcasters decided against showing replays of the moment when the Everton right-back was caught by Taylor and his leg snapped.
Sky Sports News says Coleman, 28, will undergo surgery on a double fracture to his right leg in Dublin on Saturday. He is expected to be sidelined for an extensive period.
Taylor was shown a red card.
