EURO BITES: Ligue 1 - Zlatan Ibrahimovic breaks a new record as PSG win in Nice, Angers ruin Lyon's Gerland farewell, and Abou Diaby’s injury hell continues

Jonathan Johnson rounds up the news from Ligue 1 on a weekend when Zlatan Ibrahimovic broke a new record and more injury woe for Abou Diaby was revealed

ZLATAN BREAKS ANOTHER RECORD IN NICE

Paris Saint-Germain extended their lead at the Ligue 1 summit to 15 points with a straightforward 3-0 win away at OGC Nice on Friday.

After a frustrating 0-0 draw away at Angers SCO just days before, the first time in 26 league games that the French champions had been held scoreless, Laurent Blanc’s men hit back through Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (2) goals at Allianz Riviera.

The Swede’s brace took him to a new record total of 87 goals in Le Championnat, moving him two clear of capital club legend Mustapha Dahleb. The Algerian attacking midfielder took 268 league games to amass his 85-goal total, while Zlatan needed just 103.

ANGERS SPOIL LYON’S GERLAND LIGUE 1 FAREWELL

After holding PSG to a 0-0 draw at home earlier in the week, Angers moved into second place in Ligue 1 with a 2-0 win away at Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday.

Stephane Moulin’s men spoiled Les Gones’ party as OL bid farewell to Stade Gerland in Le Championnat. The last chance Hubert Fournier’s men will now have to leave their spiritual home on a positive note will be the Coupe de la Ligue round of 16 clash with Ligue 2 side Tours FC next week.

A Cheikh N'Doye double was enough for Le SCO to come away with all three points and overtake SM Caen in second place.

FREDERIC ANTONETTI GETS FIRST PAIR OF WINS AS LILLE SHOCK HIGH-FLYING CAEN

Patrice Garande’s Caen were unable to keep up their recent impressive form when they hosted Lille OSC on Saturday, Les Dogues won 2-1 to hand new coach Frederic Antonetti his second win in as many games.

LOSC’s Yassine Benzia is suddenly on fire; having scored once in a 1-0 home win over AS Saint-Etienne last Wednesday and then twice in the victory at Stade Michel d'Ornano.

Caen host PSG before Ligue 1 takes a small winter break and Garande will be hoping his team can make up some ground on the league leaders.

JEAN-MARC FURLAN DEPARTS WINLESS TROYES

Unsurprisingly, Jean-Marc Furlan and ESTAC Troyes parted ways last Thursday after a poor run of results that has the Aube-based club bottom of the Ligue 1 table, nine points adrift of second-bottom Toulouse.

Le Tefece have enjoyed an upturn in form recently, winning two of their last three games, while Troyes are still waiting for their first win of the season.

A statement released by ESTAC confirmed Furlan’s departure, but stressed that the relationship ended amicably. It was the 58-year-old’s second spell as coach at Stade de l'Aube and the tactician was approaching six years in the role since returning in 2010.

Troyes managed a 1-1 draw away at Stade de Reims last Saturday, despite the departure of their coach just days before.

HEROIC GAZELEC AJACCIO STRETCH UNBEATEN RUN TO SEVEN

Tiny Gazelec Ajaccio’s impressive turnaround in form continues after the Corsican minnows extended their unbeaten streak in Ligue 1 to seven matches with a 1-1 draw at home to FC Nantes last Saturday.

Emiliano Sala put Les Canaris ahead early in the second half at Stade Ange Casanova, but John Tshibumbu’s equaliser six minutes from time preserved the impressive record Thierry Laurey’s men have put together of late.

With an improving Olympique de Marseille side and UEFA Champions League qualification hopefuls Lyon to come before the winter break, Gazelec face a tough task to keep their unbeaten series going.

DIABY’S FITNESS PUTS MARSEILLE DEBUT IN DOUBT

Marseille’s injury-hit former Arsenal man About Diaby is facing further injury heartache after coach Michel admitted last week that he does not know when, or even if, the France international will be fit enough to feature for OM.

The 29-year-old, who joined Marseille on a free transfer this summer, is yet to make a single appearance for Les Phoceens and was even left off the club’s UEFA Europa League squad list as he works his way back to something close to match fitness.
