Manchester United will soon learn their fate over a deal for Antony after signing Lisandro Martinez, while a Chelsea star decides his next club – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

AJAX TO TAKE ANTONY, MAN UTD STAND

Manchester United will find it even tougher to sign Antony from Ajax once they poach Lisandro Martinez from the Eredivisie club, a report has claimed.

New United boss Erik ten Hag is looking towards his former club – who he left in May – to get his Old Trafford tenure up and running. The long-winded chase for Barcelona’s ex-Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong has been well-documented.

The Red Devils have enjoyed more success over interest in versatile defender Martinez. Indeed, they are closing in on the £46million signing of the Argentina international.

But Ten Hag wants to bolster Man Utd‘s attacking ranks too and has his eyes on Ajax’s Brazilian star Antony. United have held brief talks with the Dutch giants in that regard. However, Ajax’s current €80million (£68million) price tag is looking prohibitive.

Ajax have set the valuation for the 22-year-old because they are under no pressure to sell. But according to Fabrizio Romano, that stance will harden if United sign Martinez having already poached Ten Hag.

“At the moment Man United and Ajax are only negotiating for Lisandro,” Romano told Caught Offside.

Antony is on the Red Devils’ list but there are no official bids yet. Certainly Ajax now have less need to sell players after agreeing the Martinez deal, and this will help them try to keep Antony,

“United’s interest in Antony also still largely depends on what happens with Cristiano Ronaldo.

“They plan to keep the Portuguese forward – Ten Hag still rates him as a world class player and wants to build around him – but they will see how the situation evolves before deciding whether or not to step up their efforts to sign Antony.

“Ajax and United have a strong relationship, but the Martinez sale puts the Dutch side in a strong negotiating position because I’m not sure they’ll be happy to lose their manager and two star players to Old Trafford in one summer.”

Previous reports have indicated that Chelsea have turned their attentions back to a deal for Antony. Boss Thomas Tuchel reportedly wants two attacking signings having added Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.
