Arsenal chase a deal for a Brazilian star who has proved elusive to many other clubs, while Leeds eye a former Napoli ace – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

ARSENAL WANT LUCAS PAQUETA TRANSFER

Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta is a transfer target for Arsenal, who are reportedly ‘determined’ to sign him in a move many clubs have failed with.

The Gunners have bolstered all across the pitch this summer, with striker Gabriel Jesus the most high-profile of four incomings so far. But there is a desire at the north London club to add a marquee midfielder too.

Fabio Vieira has arrived from Porto for around £34million, but Leicester’s Youri Tielemans has proved the most long-term target for a more experienced addition.

More recently, Arsenal have supposedly had a bid for Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic rejected.

According to Media Foot in France, the Gunners now also have eyes on Lyon’s Brazilian star Paqueta. They are ‘determined’ to sign him and are scheming behind the scenes to get a deal done.

However, Arsenal are aware of how elusive Paqueta has proved to be in the transfer market. Newcastle had strong links with a move for him in January as they added his former team-mate Bruno Guimaraes.

But it is not only the Magpies who have failed to seal a deal for Paqueta. Indeed, Media Foot claims ‘several clubs’ have had no luck on that front. Many have held positive talks with Lyon over a transfer, but the midfielder has then rejected clubs’ proposals.

And that is why the report claims Arsenal are working on personal terms with Paqueta first, before speaking to Lyon.

Paqueta would be the third Brazilian signing for Arsenal this summer after Jesus and Marquinhos, the latter from Sao Paolo.

Paqueta left AC Milan for Lyon in September 2020 and has scored 21 goals and assisted 13 others in 77 outings for the French club.

Media Foot does not quote his potential fee, but he could prove expensive should Arsenal get round to that side of a deal. Paqueta has 33 Brazil caps at the age of 24 and has three years left on his Lyon contract.
